He expressed hope that her appointment—as the first woman to hold the foreign affairs portfolio in the country’s history—would mark the beginning of a new era for Yemeni diplomacy, defined by a stronger and more proactive presence in defending state interests and enhancing its regional and international standing.

H.E. the President emphasized that the current phase requires a transition from traditional diplomacy to a proactive and dynamic approach that leads the international dialogue on Yemen, builds strategic partnerships, and defends national interests, rather than merely reacting to events or managing protocol relations.

The Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council stressed that a top priority for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the upcoming stage is to consolidate the national narrative and prevent the Iran-backed terrorist Houthi militias from filling any potential void or continuing to distort facts. He affirmed that it is time for the state to speak with a unified voice grounded in international law, documented facts, and UN Security Council resolutions.

H.E. the President stated that during this exceptional period, the responsibility of diplomatic missions extends beyond standard representation; it encompasses doubled efforts, including dismantling misleading narratives propagated by the Houthi militias over the past years, highlighting them as the true party responsible for the Yemeni people’s suffering.

The President pointed out the rogue militia’s responsibility for destroying the capabilities of the Yemeni people, including the assets of the national carrier, restricting travel for millions of Yemenis, and eroding their dignified livelihoods. Furthermore, he highlighted their export of chaos, cross-border threats to the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and international waterways, as well as dragging the country into successive crises to serve the Iranian regime’s agenda—at a time when the state, supported by its loyal brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, continues to launch initiatives to alleviate suffering, secure movement, and safeguard local and global trade.

He added that every Yemeni embassy must transform into a platform for defending the Republic of Yemen and its supreme interests, and every ambassador must serve as a responsible voice for the state—capable of presenting facts, countering disinformation campaigns, bolstering international confidence in UN member state institutions, and mobilizing all resources to serve the battle of national salvation.

In this context, H.E. the President commended the strategic partnership with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, emphasizing that it serves as a foundational pillar for joint action supporting Yemen and its people, and a key launchpad for efforts to restore state institutions, anchor security and stability, and alleviate humanitarian suffering. He highlighted Saudi Arabia’s political, economic, developmental, and humanitarian support, as well as its continuous commitment to sponsoring peace efforts and supporting Yemeni state institutions.

Conversely, the Chairman of the Leadership Council noted that the Iranian regime continues to employ armed militias to destabilize the region, threaten neighboring countries, target waterways and economic facilities, and undermine peace prospects. He stressed that recent attacks by its regional proxies reflect the continuation of this destructive approach that threatens international peace and security.

H.E. the President praised the efforts of Prime Minister Dr. Shayea Al-Zindani during his tenure at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in launching the institutional reform project for the ministry. This initiative aims to ensure enhanced efficiency and integrity in appointments, elevate the readiness of diplomatic missions, qualify young cadres, and rationalize expenditure—enabling the ministry to fully carry out its mission, strengthen the Republic of Yemen’s presence in regional and international forums, serve the interests of its citizens, and defend its sovereignty and constitutional institutions.

Riyadh Dr. Afrah Abdulaziz Al-Zouba was officially sworn in today, Wednesday, before His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, following her appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
