He underscored the need to ensure that humanitarian assistance is directed in line with priorities and actual needs across Yemen’s governorates, helping to ensure that aid reaches the most vulnerable people in a fair and effective manner, particularly amid limited resources and declining levels of international humanitarian funding.

The Vice Minister reaffirmed the government’s continued commitment to protecting and supporting all Yemeni citizens across the country without discrimination. He noted, however, that this commitment has been undermined by obstruction and abuses by the Houthi militias, which have prevented humanitarian assistance from reaching those in need, closed the offices of international organizations providing food and medical assistance, detained their staff, brought fabricated charges against them, and subjected them to proceedings that lacked basic guarantees of a fair trial and the right to defense.

For his part, Acting WFP Executive Director Carl Skau reviewed the existing cooperation between the Yemeni government and the WFP, along with the organization’s key humanitarian programs and interventions in Yemen. He also outlined the WFP’s plans for the next phase, emphasizing the importance of continued coordination with government authorities to improve the effectiveness of humanitarian interventions and ensure that assistance and programs are directed toward the areas and communities most in need, in line with current priorities.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Muthana Alamrie, Head of the Department of International Organizations and Conferences; Al-Khader Daloum, WFP Representative and Country Director in Yemen; and a number of WFP officials.

Aden Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate, Mustafa Noman met today with Acting Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP) Carl Skau to discuss the latest humanitarian and food security updates in Yemen, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation and enhance the response to growing humanitarian needs.
