Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr Afrah Al-Zouba met today with Spain\u2019s non-resident Ambassador to Yemen, Javier Carbajosa, to discuss bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, as well as the latest developments in Yemen and other issues of mutual interest.<\/p>\n
The Minister expressed her appreciation for Spain\u2019s support for Yemen and stressed the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation and coordination in support of shared interests.<\/p>\n
She briefed the Ambassador on recent developments in Yemen, including the latest Houthi escalation along the western coast and the threat it poses to maritime security in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, as well as to international trade.<\/p>\n
The meeting also addressed the risks posed by smuggling and organised crime, the links between the terrorist Houthi militia and extremist groups, and the wider implications for the security of Yemen, the region and international shipping lanes.<\/p>\n
For his part, the Spanish Ambassador reaffirmed his country\u2019s support for the Presidential Leadership Council, led by President Dr Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, and for the Yemeni government. He also reiterated Spain\u2019s support for Yemen\u2019s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing the importance of enabling state institutions to fulfil their responsibilities.<\/p>\n
The Ambassador expressed Spain\u2019s concern over the Houthi militia\u2019s threats to international shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab, noting that the security of these strategic waterways is of vital importance to Spain, Europe and the wider international community.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
