{"id":39253,"date":"2026-09-06T23:12:06","date_gmt":"2026-09-06T20:12:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mofa-ye.org\/Pages\/?p=39253"},"modified":"2026-09-06T23:12:06","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T20:12:06","slug":"foreign-minister-discusses-strengthening-bilateral-relations-and-issues-of-mutual-interest-with-south-african-ambassador","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mofa-ye.org\/Pages\/39253\/","title":{"rendered":"Foreign Minister Discusses Strengthening Bilateral Relations and Issues of Mutual Interest with South African Ambassador"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Riyadh<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr Afrah Al-Zouba met today with South Africa\u2019s non-resident Ambassador to Yemen, Mogobo David Magabe, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on issues of mutual interest.<\/p>\n<p>At the outset of the meeting, Ambassador Magabe conveyed the greetings of South Africa\u2019s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Ronald Lamola, to Minister Al-Zouba and renewed the invitation extended to her to visit South Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The two sides discussed finalizing arrangements for the signing of an instrument establishing a political consultation mechanism between the two countries. The mechanism is intended to facilitate regular dialogue and coordination, strengthen cooperation at the United Nations and other international forums, and broaden political and economic engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Al-Zouba expressed her appreciation for South Africa\u2019s support for Yemen, highlighting the deep historical ties between the two countries and the importance of building on them to advance their shared interests.<\/p>\n<p>She also briefed the Ambassador on the Houthis\u2019 recent escalation along Yemen\u2019s western coast, including attacks targeting ports and civilian facilities, and the grave threat these actions pose to the safety and security of navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab. She stressed that these attacks threaten not only Yemen but also regional security and international trade.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister commended South Africa\u2019s principled position on the Palestinian cause and its international efforts to defend the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, affirming that these positions are deeply appreciated by Yemen\u2019s leadership, government and people.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Ambassador Magabe reaffirmed South Africa\u2019s support for Yemen\u2019s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, security and stability.
