She affirmed that the government is responding to the escalation responsibly and remains committed to fulfilling its constitutional duty to protect its citizens, restore control over the entirety of its national territory, and meet the needs of displaced and affected communities.

The Minister stressed the importance of a unified international position in support of the government and Yemen’s sovereignty. She warned that the Houthi escalation constitutes a strategic threat extending beyond Yemen’s borders, undermining regional and international security and stability while endangering the interests of allies and partners and the safety of international shipping and global trade. She called for political positions to be translated into effective measures to halt the flow of Iranian weapons, financing and military expertise to the Houthi militia.

Minister Al-Zouba also warned against attempts by the terrorist Houthi militia to use misleading messages of reassurance as cover to buy time, rearm and prepare for further rounds of attacks inside and outside Yemen. She said the group seeks to consolidate its control over areas along the western coast and around Bab al-Mandab as a fait accompli, using them to blackmail countries in the region and threaten global trade in service of Iran’s agenda. She affirmed that such messages would not deceive the international community, obscure the militia’s extremist nature or erase its record of aggression, which has been experienced by Yemenis, countries in the region and the wider world.

For his part, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires condemned the attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi militia and its threats to the security of Yemen and the region and to international navigation. He reaffirmed his country’s support for the Yemeni government and people in confronting the escalation, as well as its commitment to continued coordination and cooperation to promote security and stability.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr Afrah Al-Zouba held a telephone call today with Neil Hop, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to Yemen, to discuss recent developments, the repercussions of the Houthi escalation for the security of Yemen and the wider region and international navigation, and ways to support the government in addressing …

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[74,60

post-39545","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","","category-breaking-news","category-ministry-news
["GET
