Al-Asadi: More than 1,450 violations against press and journalists in Yemen

Geneva – Saba
A member of the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate Council, Nabil Al-Asadi, confirmed that the Houthi militias committed more than 1,450 cases of violations against the press and journalists in Yemen, including the killing of 51 journalists and the abduction and enforced disappearance of more than 350 others.

He made the remarks during his participation, today, in the symposium organized by the International Federation of Journalists regarding the launch of the proposal for the International Convention on the Safety of Journalists on the sidelines of the 51st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

In the symposium, Al-Asadi reviewed the reality of the press and journalists in Yemen in light of the Houthi coup against the legitimate authority in Yemen in 2014, through the closure of many newspapers and websites, the confiscation and looting of the contents of their headquarters, and the violations that affected journalists through the process of arrest, enforced disappearance, torture, killing and other violations.
