Foreign Minister Calls for Firm European Stance to Deter Houthi Violations

ADEN – SABA

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr Afrah Al-Zouba discussed developments in Yemen and the repercussions of the ongoing Houthi military escalation against the city of Taiz during a phone call with the European Union Ambassador to Yemen, Patrick Simonnet.

The Foreign Minister highlighted the suffering of more than four million people in Taiz Governorate as a result of Houthi attacks targeting residential areas, alongside the tightening of the siege, which threatens to trigger an imminent humanitarian catastrophe as supplies of food, water, medicine and fuel are disrupted. She also noted the worsening conditions facing people displaced from districts in the southern and western countryside.

Dr Al-Zouba expressed appreciation for the European Union’s support for Yemen and its government, as well as its continued humanitarian and development efforts. She stressed the importance of the EU playing a more active role in addressing Houthi violations and limiting their impact on Yemen’s security, regional stability and the safety of international navigation.

For his part, Ambassador Patrick Simonnet reaffirmed the European Union’s support for the Yemeni government and its commitment to continued coordination with international and regional partners to alleviate the humanitarian crisis resulting from the Houthi military escalation and to mobilize European support for efforts aimed at restoring stability in Yemen.
