The Republic of Yemen condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the heinous acts of storming and vandalism targeting the Consulate General of the sisterly State of Kuwait in the city of Basra, Republic of Iraq.
Yemen further denounces the flagrant assaults on the sanctity of the consular mission, which constitute a stark violation of international law, diplomatic norms, and the legal obligations enshrined in the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the full solidarity of the Republic of Yemen and its unwavering support for the State of Kuwait in the face of these rejected criminal acts. The Ministry emphasizes that the targeting of diplomatic and consular premises represents a grave infringement upon state sovereignty and a direct threat to the foundations of international relations—a condemned behavior that cannot be justified or tolerated under any circumstances.
The Ministry underscores that these subversive attacks do not target the State of Kuwait alone; rather, they represent an assault on the framework of rules and norms governing international conduct. Such actions undermine the prestige and rule of law within host countries, necessitating a firm stance to ensure that those involved do not enjoy impunity.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls upon the brotherly Iraqi government to uphold its full legal responsibilities in protecting diplomatic and consular missions, their premises, and their personnel. It urges the immediate implementation of measures to hold the perpetrators of these criminal acts accountable and to prevent their recurrence, thereby ensuring the security of foreign missions and upholding Iraq’s international obligations.
