Yemen strongly condemns the Houthi terrorist militia’s attacks on the Kingdom’s airports and holy sites

Aden – SABA:

The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs strongly condemns the terrorist attacks carried out by the Iran‑backed Houthi militia on Jazan and Najran airports in the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as well as the attempted targeting of Mecca, the attack on Madinah, and the threats issued against airlines operating in Saudi airspace—an escalation that violates the sanctity of holy sites and endangers civilians and civil aviation.

The Ministry reaffirms the Republic of Yemen’s full solidarity with the Kingdom—its leadership, government, and people—and expresses its support for the Kingdom’s legitimate right to defend itself and take lawful measures to protect its sovereignty, territory, citizens, and residents.

The Ministry stresses that the militia’s attacks on the Kingdom and on the Yemeni people reflect a single aggressive pattern. The same militia targeting civilian airports in Saudi Arabia is the one that bombed Aden International Airport during the government’s arrival in December 2020, obstructed flights through Sana’a Airport, and seized four Yemenia aircraft. This record demonstrates its disregard for civilian lives and its use of airports and travelers’ suffering as tools of political blackmail.

The Ministry highly values the Saudi Cabinet’s affirmation of the Kingdom’s full support for the Presidential Leadership Council, the government, and the Yemeni people in ending the coup and restoring the state and its institutions—an extension of the Kingdom’s steadfast fraternal positions and its political, humanitarian, and development support, reflecting the deep-rooted partnership and shared security between the two countries.

It also expresses appreciation for the comprehensive support provided by the Coalition to Support Legitimacy, led by the Kingdom, to the Yemeni government and its armed forces, as well as for the supportive Arab, Islamic, and international positions—particularly those of the Gulf Cooperation Council states.

The Ministry notes the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to end the war and alleviate the suffering of Yemenis, affirming that the Houthi attacks against the Kingdom reveal the militia’s determination to undermine these efforts and expand its aggression in service of the Iranian regime’s agenda. The Ministry firmly rejects the use of Yemeni territory, airspace, or coastlines to threaten neighboring countries or international navigation, stressing that the militia does not represent the Republic of Yemen nor reflect the will of its people.

The Ministry welcomes the outcomes of the emergency meeting of the Political and Defense Strategic Committee of the Mecca Defense Alliance, including the activation of collective deterrence and the transition to practical implementation of joint defense commitments, strengthening the protection of the Kingdom’s security and confronting Houthi attacks launched from areas under militia control.

The Ministry affirms that Operation “Dawn of Yemen,” launched by His Excellency President of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al‑Alimi, embodies the determination of Yemenis to restore their state, liberate the capital Sana’a, and end the Houthi coup that has undermined state institutions since 2014. This national mission stems from the state’s constitutional responsibility to protect its people, assert authority over all national territory, preserve Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, and independent decision-making, and establish the foundations of sustainable peace that ensure the security of Yemenis and their neighbors.

The Ministry reiterates the Republic of Yemen’s commitment to protecting civilians, respecting international humanitarian law, and facilitating humanitarian access to those in need across all governorates.

It notes that the progress achieved by the national army in Bab al‑Mandab and the western coast confirms that the initiative is now in the hands of the state and strengthens its ability to secure this vital waterway. The Ministry views the militia’s escalation against the Kingdom as an attempt to export its battlefield losses beyond Yemen’s borders and compensate for its defeats by targeting civilians and threatening civilian infrastructure.

The Republic of Yemen calls on Arab and Islamic countries and the international community to adopt a firm stance supporting the Yemeni people and their government, through enforcing relevant UN Security Council resolutions—foremost among them Resolution 2216—upholding the arms embargo on the militia, and halting the flow of Iranian weapons, financing, and military expertise. It affirms that supporting the Yemeni state in fully restoring its authority and ensuring that weapons remain exclusively in its hands is a shared Arab and international interest, and a lasting guarantee for Yemen’s security, regional stability, and the protection of global navigation and trade.
