MOSCOW – SABA His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) laid today, Wednesday, during his official visit to the Russian Federation, a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier at the Kremlin wall in Alexander Garden in Red Square in the Russian capital, Moscow. After that, the Chairman of the PLC witnessed a ceremonial display by the honor guard, after the military band played the national anthem of the Republic of Yemen. The memorial, established in the late 1960s, is one of the symbols of Russian national glory that embodies the resilience and sacrifices of the Russian people, and their great victory over Nazism and its eternal defeat. The shrine contains the remains of the unknown Soviet soldiers from the Battle of Moscow in 1941 who were moved from the city of Saint Petersburg (formerly Leningrad) to the site of the shrine alongside the western wall of the Kremlin.

Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council Dr. Rashad al-Alimi met Wednesday here with the Chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin.

The meeting discussed the distinguished bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the latest developments in the Yemeni situation and regional and international issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, President al-Alimi praised the historical Yemeni-Russian relations that date back nearly a hundred years, emphasizing the mutual commitment to advance these relations towards broader horizons of cooperation and fruitful coordination in various fields, particularly in the legislative aspect.

He commended the positions of the Russian Federation in support of the Yemeni people and their political leadership in various international forums, expressing his hope for Moscow to continue its active role in supporting the state and its legitimate institutions.

The President discussed the latest developments in Yemen, including the stalled peace efforts due to the intransigence of the terrorist Houthi militias, and the legitimate government’s openness to all initiatives aimed at ending the war in accordance with the agreed-upon references, particularly Resolution 2216.

For his part, Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin welcomed President al-Alimi and his accompanying delegation, affirming Russia’s continued support for Yemen, its people, and their aspirations for restoring security, stability and peace.

Volodin pointed to important milestones in the relations between the two countries, expressing confidence that the visit of the Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council to Russia will represent a significant boost to strengthen these relations at all levels.

He also emphasized the importance of close coordination between the Duma and the Yemeni Parliament and the exchange of experiences and visits that serve the common interests of the two friendly peoples and countries.
