UNSC to End Mandate of UN Mission Supporting Hodeidah Agreement by End of March

The United Nations Security Council has decided to terminate the mandate of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement (UNMHA) at the end of March 2026, following a vote in which 13 of the Council’s 15 members voted in favor. Russia and China abstained.

Speaking after the vote, U.S. Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Tammy Bruce said that the Houthis’ intransigence had rendered the mission ineffective, necessitating its termination.

The decision was adopted under Security Council Resolution No. 2813, drafted by the United Kingdom.

The resolution extends UNMHA’s mandate for an additional two months, until March 31, 2026, to allow the mission to conclude its operations, wind down its physical presence, and transfer any remaining responsibilities to the Office of the UN Special Envoy for Yemen.
