Yemen’s Ambassador to the United States, Jamila Raja, met with the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Acting Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, Indrika Ratwatte, to discuss the latest developments in the humanitarian situation in Yemen and ways to enhance the humanitarian response to meet escalating needs.
During the meeting, held in the presence of Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, Ambassador Raja emphasized that the humanitarian crisis in Yemen remains a top national priority, given the continuous suffering of millions of Yemenis resulting from the coup of the terrorist Houthi militias backed by the Iranian regime.
She underscored the critical importance of maintaining the level of humanitarian assistance provided to Yemen, characterizing it as a fundamental pillar for enhancing stability and supporting recovery, reconstruction, and development efforts.
For his part, the UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Acting Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) to sustaining its humanitarian operations in Yemen, despite funding shortages and operational challenges. He also highlighted efforts to strengthen oversight and monitoring mechanisms to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches its intended beneficiaries efficiently and transparently.
In conclusion, both sides emphasized the importance of continued coordination and cooperation to mobilize further international support and scale up the response to growing humanitarian needs in Yemen, thereby contributing to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people, supporting recovery efforts, and promoting security and stability.
