Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Afrah Al-Zouba received today Zhao Zheng, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Yemen. The two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting reviewed the longstanding relations between Yemen and China, which mark their 70th anniversary this year, spanning 1956 to 2026. Discussions also covered opportunities to enhance cooperation in development, humanitarian assistance, education and capacity-building, as well as broaden coordination on issues of mutual interest.
Dr. Al-Zouba expressed Yemen’s appreciation for China’s support for the country’s unity, sovereignty, security and stability. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further developing relations of friendship and cooperation in a manner that serves the shared interests of both countries and peoples.
The two sides also reviewed the latest developments in Yemen. Dr. Al-Zouba highlighted the violations committed by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorist militia and its threats to the security of international navigation in the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab. She underscored the importance of supporting the Yemeni government and its efforts to achieve peace and safeguard international maritime routes.
The Chinese Chargé d’Affaires congratulated Dr. Al-Zouba and wished her success in her new role. He also reaffirmed China’s support for Yemen’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expressed his country’s commitment to continuing cooperation with the Yemeni government.
The meeting was attended by H.E. Ambassador Gamal Awed Nasser.
