RIYADH-SABA
His Excellency President Dr. Rashad al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) received on Monday the British Minister of State for Middle East Affairs Hamish Falconover.
The talks covered a range of topical issues including Yemeni-British strong historical relations, the needed British and international support to improve the capacities of the Yemeni government in institution-building, maintaining security and stability, confronting common threats, combating terrorism and organized crime as well as protecting international navigation.
President al-Alimi highly praised the honorable and steadfast British positions alongside national states in the region whether in Yemen, Sudan or elsewhere.
He deeply appreciated the United Kingdom’s role within the Security Council as the penholder and as a responsible partner in building practical and sustainable political solutions.
Al-Alimi touched upon the transformations the country has seen recently, thanks for generous support from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in terms of strengthening the presence of the state and its institutions, normalizing conditions, improving basic services, ensuring the regular payment of salaries, securing commercial imports, ending the militarization of cities, and unifying security and military decision-making.
He made it clear that the talk about a security vacuum after eliminating parallel military structures is a misleading narrative, as it is not possible to build lasting peace amid multiple centers of decision-making.
The Chairman of the PLC affirmed that Yemen is closer to recovery today than it has been in years, and that international support at this moment will make a strategic difference, noting that Yemen’s stability is a crucial gateway to the stability of the region and waterways.
The Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shaya Zandani was in attendance.
