Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, met today with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Dr. Rania Al-Mashat. During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance cooperation and expand areas of partnership to support national development priorities and contribute to advancing the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The meeting touched upon opportunities to elevate institutional cooperation between Yemen and ESCWA, utilizing the technical expertise provided by the Commission in drafting and developing public policies, supporting development planning, building institutional capacities, and providing technical advice. This aims to enhance the efficiency of national institutions, institutionalize the exchange of knowledge and expertise with member states, and support the government’s efforts to achieve economic and social development.
Ambassador Al-Saadi praised the pivotal role played by ESCWA in supporting Arab nations, commending its technical programs and initiatives that contribute to strengthening national capacities. He affirmed the Yemeni government’s keenness to consolidate cooperation with ESCWA and leverage its expertise to serve national development priorities, particularly in the areas of planning, institutional reform, and sustainable development.
For her part, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat affirmed ESCWA’s commitment to ongoing support for Yemen and the advancement of joint cooperation in alignment with Yemen’s national needs and priorities, thereby contributing to the enhancement of development pathways and institutional capacity building.
