A press statement by the Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak, following his meeting with Mr. Hans Grundberg, the UN Special Envoy to Yemen

29 Mars 2022

The Government of Yemen welcomes every responsible and honest effort that seeks to end the Houthi coup against the state and achieve peace. This has been the Government’s consistent position on all UN and regional calls for peace, the latest of which was the Saudi initiative, which clearly called for a comprehensive ceasefire. Since his appointment, The Government of Yemen has engaged in serious and positive discussions with the UN special envoy to Yemen, Mr. Hans Grundberg, in an effort to arrive at an approach that guarantees a comprehensive cease-fire and truly addresses all the humanitarian issues that impact the lives of Yemenis across the country, without discrimination.

The Government of Yemen deals in full responsibility with all and any efforts and initiatives put forward at the moment, whether it be the discussions called for by the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) or the United Nations’ calls aimed at alleviating the suffering of Yemenis.

The Government of Yemen further reaffirms that the Houthi militia’s attempts to evade its commitments by launching empty and irresponsible initiatives that fail to address the roots of the problem and the coup on the state, is evidence of the militia’s lack of seriousness and failure to deal responsibly with the humanitarian and economic conditions inflicted by the war, which are frighteningly exacerbated by the international crises, whose implications will undoubtedly affect our country and our people.

The ongoing situation in the country requires a great deal of human conscience, moral responsibility and a stop to the absurd propagandas and vain political maneuvers.

Stemming from our responsibility towards our people and in preparation for the blessed month of Ramadan, we renew the call to respond to the voice of reason and to engage responsibly with the calls of the Gulf Cooperation Council and to make the most of its initiative and all international efforts to work towards relieving Yemen of its ordeal, ending the suffering of Yemenis and achieving the long-sought-after peace based on the national pillars and agreed terms of reference. We must harness the advent of the blessed month of Ramadan, during which signs of mercy and humanity manifest, to stop the Yemeni bloodshed and alleviate the suffering of Yemenis who are paying the price of this war. They deserve to live in peace and prosperity.
