PM calls on the UN to increase support for govt’s plans to ensure food security

Prime Minister Dr. Ma’een Abdulmalik highlighted Yemen’s pressing need for greater support by the UN to sustain the government’s plans and efforts to ensure food security and food supplies amid current global crisis in terms of food stuffs supplies and prices.

His statement came during a virtual discussions he held today via video conferencing with the Under-Secretary of the UN for Humanitarian Affairs and Coordinator for Emergency Relief Martin Griffiths.

Ma’een called for supporting the government’s efforts aiming to establish Emergency Fund to finance food imports in order to mitigate the implications of the current international crisis relating to food commodity supplies and prices that will further exacerbate the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

Dr. Ma’een briefed Mr. Griffiths on the government’s efforts to ensure realizing the economic stability, mainly the national currency exchange rates and prices of basic commodity.
