Yemen recovers 77 smuggled antiquities and manuscripts from the United States

Washington – Saba
Yemen’s embassy in Washington announced the recovery of 77 smuggled relics including Quranic manuscripts from the United States.

The Yemeni ambassador to Washington, Ambassador Muhammad al-Hadhrami, appreciated – during the relics handover ceremony – the efforts of the US security agencies that seized these ancient Yemeni antiquities and returned them to Yemen’s government.

Al-Hadhrami said, “The Yemeni heritage and antiquities were stolen, looted and smuggled by terrorist organizations such as al-Qaeda and the Houthi coupist militia,” noting that a number of Yemeni museums were looted after the brutal Houthi coup against the state in 2014.
