GENEVA-SABA
The Republic of Yemen confirmed its commitment to undertake its humanitarian role in protecting the refugees and migrants despite the huge challenges it has been facing due to the ongoing war in the country since more than eleven years.
This was stated in the speech of the Republic of Yemen during the 76th Session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), held in Geneva, delivered by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Mostafa Noaman.
“Despite the humanitarian and economic crises Yemen faces, it continues to host hundreds of thousands of refugees and migrants from the Horn of Africa, in addition to more than four million internally displaced persons,” said Noaman.
He added, “Yemen will remain faithful to its humanitarian and moral commitments toward refugees and migrants,” calling on the international community for a genuine and sustainable partnership to support the Yemeni government’s efforts in fulfilling its national and international obligations.
He also called on the international community to provide urgent financial, technical and political support to enable Yemen to implement its ten pledges made at the Refugee Forum in December 2023.
