The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomes the statement issued by the High Representative of the European Union on behalf of EU member states regarding Yemen, including its strong condemnation of the Houthi escalation and attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in Yemen, as well as attacks on the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Ministry appreciates the statement’s full solidarity with Yemen, the Kingdom, and their peoples, its reaffirmation of Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, and its commitment to increasing support for the legitimate government and the Presidential Leadership Council.
The Ministry highly values the European Union’s call to halt military support to the militia, including Iranian support, its reaffirmation of the prohibition against the starvation of civilians as a method of warfare, and its demand for the opening of an urgent humanitarian corridor in Taiz and the immediate and unconditional release of UN personnel and humanitarian workers abducted by the militia.
The Ministry reiterates its condemnation of the crime that claimed the life of Mohammed Ibrahim Al‑Shami, an employee of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in the detention facilities of the Houthi terrorist militia, following his abduction and enforced disappearance since June 2024. It holds the militia fully responsible and calls for an independent international investigation to uncover the circumstances of the crime and identify those responsible as a step toward accountability, as well as firm international action to secure the release of the remaining detainees. The Ministry also extends its sincere condolences to his family and colleagues.
The Ministry calls for translating these positions into practical measures that cut off the militia’s channels of armament and financing and put an end to its impunity. It affirms that ending the coup and supporting state institutions in extending their authority remain the foundation for protecting Yemenis, safeguarding regional security, and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al‑Mandab Strait.
